News Online take major honours in EOJ awards
London, 4 July: Journalists from BBC News Online emerged the biggest
winners in this year's European Online Journalism Awards, capturing
of the 17 prizes on offer. Elmundo.es of Spain won in three categories.
This years' competition, which was audited by the Audit Bureau of
Circulation's electronic division, attracted a record number of entries
(875), double the total for 2001. Entries were received from 24 European
The most coveted award, the Internet Journalist of the Year, was won by
David Whitehouse, science editor of BBC News Online. Runner-up was
Bukharbaeva of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting.
Best Overall Journalism Service was "Hold the Front
Electronic Publishing's online news service for UK regional journalists.
Football entries featured strongly in this year of the World Cup and
winners in two categories: Best News Design and Navigation ("Korea-Japan
2002 Football World Championship") and Sports ("Elmundodeporte.com"),
from Elmundo.es of Spain.
